All Clear

Greetings from de island friends,

I am happy to report that Hurricane Danny was literally a non-event, and Tropical Storm Erika has come and gone without a trace of evidence. Our friends down island, especially in Dominica, were not as fortunate. Please keep this island and its people in your prayers. As soon as we are notified of relief efforts, we will share ways in which you might be able to help assist this devastated island.

We experienced very heavy winds last night which howled and kept us and the fur babies up for most of the night. We were in a state of emergency, curfew was lifted at 8am this morning, and I went straight into work. I started what I intended to be a witty, sarcastic post about tourist etiquette in a storm situation, but it turned into a sleepy, humorless rant which more resembled a public service announcement. So I do apologize for what is honestly my lack of motivation to write the usual Island Feature Friday or anything of witty substance for you. I hope you understand.

In recent island updates, we are officially two weeks out from our New York City/New England cruise trip, and I feel quite unplanned and unpacked for a potential Fall situation. But I have located all the worthy bake shops in the city within reasonable distance and intend to hit them all! I also feel like my heart will just explode with joy if I see a trace of Fall foliage! This week was full of wonderful news from our friends: Shruti and Chris are settling in NYC, our dear friends Amanda & Jared just had a beautiful baby boy, and our very close island friends Kelly & Kris asked DJ to officiate their wedding!

A little lackluster, but that’s all for now folks! See y’all next week!
